Marijuana Remains Illegal, Prop 19 Rejected by CA Voters

Proposition 19, the initiative that would have made California the first state to legalize marijuana, has been defeated. The proposition would have legalized possession of an ounce of marijuana for all adults over the age of 21.

The initiative was supported by 44 percent of voters and opposed by 56 percent. HIGH TIMES West Coast Editor David Bienenstock wrote via text, “They just called it on TV at the party [at Proposition 19 headquarters in Oakland]. Not this time, but I’m hearing talk about 2012 already. Prop 19 will be an important stepping stone on the way to legalization.”

Look for an in-depth report on Prop. 19 and all other marijuana-related voter initiatives on HT.comtomorrow.
